Doughnut Day

Apparently National Doughnut Day was June 2nd.
I can't believe I missed it! I was totally distracted by playing spiderman.
But the passing of this holiday made me realize how non-chalant we have become about honoring the doughnut. The greatest thing to happen to fried bread, since someone thought to wrap a hotdog inside of some cornbread.
So... by the power invested in me by the board of trustees and my ranking as 53rd most powerful man in Seattle and 18th most powerful man in Seattle shorter than 5'6", I hereby declare every friday doughnut day. And each week we will honor a new type of doughnut. There is a wonderful diversity of doughnuts--bear claws, fritters, cake, maple bars--and in keeping with our custom of celebrating diversity, we want to honor the unique aspects of every doughnut.
The first week, we will indulge in the rich, virbant nature of the peach fritter. Always an underdog: "is it a doughnut or is it a muffin?", always ignorantly mistaken for an apple fritter, the peach fritter has survived in this harsh pastry world and certainly adds to the wonderful character of SPU.
Join me in toasting the peach fritter as our first of many honorees.

for peach is a jolly good doughnut
it makes for a yummy good fritter
for peach is a jolly good doughnut
which nobody can deny!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

(not even you steeley-boy!)

peace
